【摘要】:Materialsanddevicesthatfunctionatleastinpartbyadheringtolivingtissuesarefindingincreasinguseinsurgicalprocedureseitherasadjunctstosuturesandstaples,orasfrankreplacementsforthosedevicesinawidevarietyofmedicalprocedures.Whilethenatureandmagnitudeoftheforcesinvolvedvariesgreatlywithindicationandwithpatientspecificcircumstances,allusesinvolvetosomeextenttheabilityofthematerialtoresistimposedmechanicalforces.Therefore,themechanicalpropertiesofthematerials,andinparticulartheadhesiveproperties,areimportantparametersinevaluatingtheirfitnessforuse.Inaddition,themechanicalpropertiesofagivenadhesivecompositioncanprovideausefulmeansofdeterminingproductconsistencyforqualitycontrol,orasameansfordeterminingtheeffectsofvarioussurfacetreatmentsonthesubstratepriortouseofthedevice.Thecomplexityandvarietyofindividualapplicationsfortissueadhesivedevices,evenwithinasingleindicateduse(surgicalprocedure)issuchthattheresultsofasingle-lap-sheartestarenotsuitablefordeterminingallowabledesignstresseswithoutthoroughanalysisandunderstandingoftheapplicationandadhesivebehaviors.Thistestmethodmaybeusedforcomparingadhesivesorbondingprocessesforsusceptibilitytofatigueandenvironmentalchanges,butsuchcomparisonsmustbemadewithgreatcautionsincedifferentadhesivesmayresponddifferentlytovaryingconditions.1.1Thistestmethodisintendedtoprovideameansforcomparisonoftheadhesivestrengthsoftissueadhesivesintendedforuseassurgicaladhesivesorsealants,orboth,onsofttissue.Withtheappropriatechoiceofsubstrate,itmayalsobeusedforpurposesofqualitycontrolinthemanufactureoftissueadhesivebasedmedicaldevices.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
